According to a nutrition study led by the German Institute of Human Nutrition, the so-called internal clock also influences how people with impaired glucose metabolism react to carbohydrate-rich food. E.g., in men with prediabetes, abundant consumption of foods containing starch and sugar in the evening had a negative effect on their blood glucose regulation. In comparison, in healthy study participants the timing of carbohydrate intake did not play a significant role in blood glucose regulation.
